Steps for Evacuees in the RM of Morris
Thursday, April 9th, 20091. Those choosing to evacuate must call the Red Cross to register to be able to claim expenses through MB Emergency Measures Organization.
2. Evacuees should first try to find accommodation with family and friends.
3. If accommodation with family and friends is not available, evacuees may book their own hotel rooms and reclaim the cost from the Province after the flood.
4. Evacuees unable to find accommodation with family and friends and without the means to afford a hotel must call the RM of Morris and the RM will find a suitable hotel at the RM’s expense.
5. Evacuees should make sure they keep all receipts, including meal receipts. Claim forms can be found at the EMO website: www.manitobaemo.ca. Visit the site and double click Disaster Financial Assistance.

Â
1. Presently residents required to evacuate by instruction from their community can claim their evacuation expenses online provided that they have registered online with the Red Cross at 1-888-662-3211 between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. or in person with their community or hosting community reception centre/s.

- For those that choose to voluntarily evacuate their homes because they are surrounded by water, or due to road closures, and have to travel for long hours to and from work, they can also make an evacuation expense claim, with the understanding that a reasonable explanation for evacuation will be needed in order for the claim to be processed.
- For those who prefer to fax their DFA application or bring their application to their municipal office, they can download the PDF form by following the link above.
- For residents that choose to stay in a hotel/motel, they can claim those evacuation expenses provided that the rates paid are reasonable.

Â
2. The Government of Manitoba Chief Veterinary Officer held a meeting on Tuesday, March 31 to discuss a provincial emergency response for animals. The Chief Veterinary Officer wants to coordinate and organize all available organizations, including their networks of volunteers and resources, in the best interests of people and their pets during any emergency response. Final details to follow.
Â
3. Before travelling in flood affected areas please check www.manitoba.ca/mit/roadinfo/index.html or call 204-945-3704 or 1-877-627-6237.
Â
4. Law enforcement agencies remind motorists to obey road barriers set up to control traffic safety. Water levels can change quickly and roads may have barriers on them even if there is only the potential for flooding. Driving on a closed road is a risk to individuals and is against the law.
Â
 5. For those requesting provincial equipment, it is understood that first you have to make all reasonable efforts to get your equipment from the private sector before requesting provincial resources. All rental expenses are eligible for DFA claims provided a program is announced. This is a reminder that the purchases of equipment are not eligible for DFA claims.
Â
6. At this time the province has no DFA program addressing flood issues.
